India vs England 3rd Test Day 2 Highlights: Jasprit Bumrah’s Five-Wicket Haul Helps India Bowl Out England for 387 at Lord’s

Lord’s, London – Jasprit Bumrah produced a stunning five-wicket haul on Day 2 of the India vs England 3rd Test to bring India back into the contest after a strong start from the hosts. England were bowled out for 387 in their first innings, despite Joe Root’s classy century and a gritty eighth-wicket stand.

England resumed Day 2 at 316/6 and added 71 more runs before being bundled out. The morning session belonged to Bumrah, who sparked a dramatic collapse by dismissing Joe Root (104), Ben Stokes (44), and Chris Woakes (0) in a fiery seven-ball spell. Root’s century — his 37th in Test cricket — saw him overtake Rahul Dravid and Steve Smith on the all-time Test centuries list, sitting now behind only Sachin Tendulkar (51).

From a comfortable 251/4, England crumbled to 271/7 as Bumrah swung the momentum in India’s favour. However, Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse counter-attacked smartly to frustrate India’s bowlers. Smith, continuing his excellent form from the last Test (184* and 88), scored a quickfire 51* off 53 balls, while Carse added 33*. Their partnership added a valuable 82 runs off 106 deliveries, slowing India’s charge.

The second new ball didn’t provide the expected breakthrough for India, but Bumrah eventually cleaned up the tail, finishing with impressive figures of 5 wickets. This was his comeback Test after resting during the second match in Birmingham.

India Look to Build Momentum in Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025

With the series level at 1-1, Team India will look to take control in this third Test. After a record-breaking performance at Edgbaston, where India crushed England by 336 runs, the team is riding high on confidence. Shubman Gill, the new Indian skipper, led from the front with scores of 269 and 161—becoming the first-ever batter to score both a 250+ and 150+ in the same Test match.

In Bumrah’s absence during the previous Test, Akash Deep rose to the occasion, claiming 10 wickets and proving India’s pace depth. With both pacers now playing together, India’s bowling attack looks formidable.

As Day 2 progresses at Lord’s, all eyes will now be on India’s batting unit. With conditions favorable and momentum slightly tilted in India’s favour, a strong batting performance could set the tone for a series-defining win.
